A handmade phenakistoscope featuring King Henry VIII and his six wives, illustrated and constructed by me, letterpressed by Czar Press. Inspired by old-school animation, scanned and animated into a short sequence by Eben McCue.

A phenakistoscope is an early animation disc that creates the illusion of moving pictures. Spinning it while looking through its slits tricks the brain; the slits act as a rapid shutter, forcing the eyes to process sequential still images as fluid motion.
